Setting Up Your Disk for Digital Output.

1. Our preferred Programs

Most everyone has a computer. However not everyone has every program, nor does every program do the things necessary to provide camera ready art for printing purposes

  • Adobe Illustrator 9.0 or earlier (Macintosh/PC)
  • Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or earlier (Macintosh/PC)
  • Corel Draw 8.0 or earlier (PC) Note: Corel Draw users, please export your job to an Adobe Illustrator (AI) file format for Macintosh.  Please select create curves for text.
  • Quark X-Press 4.0 or earlier (Macintosh)
  • Page Maker 6.5 or earlier (Macintosh/PC)

2. Supported Media

  • CD-ROM (Mac or PC)
  • Zip 100 MB (Mac or PC)
  • Zip 250 MB (PC)
  • 3.25" Floppy (Mac or PC)
  • e-mail (less than 2 MB)

3. Electronic File Checklist

  • Push Buttons are NOT used for bolding or italicizing fonts, rather I have used the actual bold or italic version of the font family. (Pagemaker)
  • Fonts on disk (Not necessary if outlined) Don't forget to include printer fonts along with the screen fonts.
  • Trim marks are set in position
  • Graphics/Photos/Scans on disk
  • Proof supplied with disk
  • Spot Colors setup correctly
  • Spot Colors have been Trapped
  • Fonts outlined (Corel Draw & Adobe Illustrator)
  • Job is set to exact size
  • Full Color items are setup as CMYK not RGB
  • Multi-Page booklets have been signature formatted for correct pagination
  • E-Mail files have been zipped or stuffed before sent
  • PageMaker file links are current and set to identify imported graphics on the disk which you are providing
  • Spell check and proof your job before sending us your disk

4. More Disk Tips

Use only postscript fonts. True Type fonts can separate or print incorrectly. True Type fonts do not output as consistantly in this form of printing. (Don't forget to include the printer fonts along with the screen fonts)

Avoid large solid areas in your design, as they do not print well. All scans should be saved as CMYK or grayscale in TIFF format. Do not use RGB images or JPEGs when using graduated blends, please note that lighter ones are preferable as darker blends tend to band.

Make sure all your Pantone colors are converted to process CMYK. ( For full color jobs only, if spot color is intended, please use spot colors that will be used in printing your separations)

Never submit a disk for output with anything other than the files to be output. It can cause confusion and waste time and your money.
